Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Risemint Capital Advisors ("RCA") unique?
RCA was founded because this industry doesn't reward optimal portfolio management. To be specific, 79% of institutional large-cap money managers underperform the benchmark*. This is because they often invest in high fee funds that promise diversification but deliver perpetual underperformance. Have you ever noticed that your accounts seem to participate more so on the downside than the upside? This is a common problem because of the inefficient portfolio design of most investment portfolios.
Our goal is to clean up the portfolio and remove the excessive asset classes that cause long-term underperformance relative to the benchmarks.

*According to JP Morgan Chase over a 20-year period. - Indices are unmanaged and investors cannot invest directly in an index. The Standard & Poor's 500 (S&P 500) is an unmanaged group of securities considered to be representative of the stock market in general. It is a market value-weighted index with each stock's weight in the index proportionate to its market value.
What questions should I ask a Financial Planner I am interviewing?
Are you adhering to a fiduciary standard? Or, just a suitability standard?
Are you compensated by specific funds and do you make commissions on trades?
Do you work with individuals like me?
How can I monitor account performance?
What custodians do you use?
When I open an account, where is my money held?
Gone are the days when your broker would handle your money directly. Instead, as a registered investment advisor, we partner with large, established custodians. A custodian securely holds your money in your name. In our case, when clients want to work with RCA, they open a Schwab or Betterment account. You then allow RCA to view and trade your account by way of that custodial platform.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No contracts. We encourage our clients to start with a modest portion of their portfolios to be managed by Risemint so they can get the feel of our process. As time passes, trust is built and maintained. We have received very positive feedback from this system.
Do you have any account minimums?
Yes and no. Depending on the service offering you choose you can start with as little as $100. The top service tier begins with a $1 million account minimum.
Does RCA have the ability to withdraw money from my accounts?
Our fee is drawn from your account by way of processing that payment through the custodian. There are safeguards in place to ensure that the amount withdrawn is correct. We cannot distribute funds without your written consent.
What if I no longer wish to work with RCA after a period of time?
You can terminate our working relationship at any time with a 30 day notice.
Why should I use RCA instead of just opening my account at Schwab?
Hiring RCA as your partner provides you with a strong advocate who's in your corner as it relates to such a significant part of your life. We have decades of experience -- along with no blemishes on our employees' records -- to chart the highly dynamic waters of the markets. Market variables can change suddenly, which can very likely create panic among investors. Experience matters in this case; we have seen it all. And we are ready for those events and have established systems and processes to weather the storms and position your portfolio to be stronger on the other side of it than it was before.
Can I see my accounts online and from a mobile app?
Yes. You will have access to view your accounts, process transfers, review documents and performance from your computer or smartphone at your convenience.
Is my money invested speculatively?
No. We are not traders. We are stewards of your investments and we employ an acute focus to managing risk. We take this responsibility seriously.
What is your communication process for clients?
We engage with our clients proactively throughout the year, in addition to recurring meetings. The frequency of these meetings is set by you, the client. Our goal is to have a thorough annual wealth plan review along with ad-hoc meetings throughout the year.
How will RCA help my family?
This is a holistic business. Every family has a unique set of circumstances, which requires a customized level of attention. Your dedicated advisor acts as your personal liaison between you and the operational components of RCA's comprehensive wealth practice. We want your wealth plan to be realized and we help you do that through great technology, expertise, and efficiently designed investment portfolios.
What are your services?
We work with our clients regarding the wealth plan. This means if you are seeking to grow, preserve, or transfer your wealth we help you plan, implement and execute an effective strategy that will help you get to your end goal. From having enough money to retire, to maximizing a lasting legacy for your future generations, we work within a broad spectrum to deliver value to you and your family.
Tell me more about the relationship that I will have with RCA
Your working relationship with RCA centers around the relationship between you and your dedicated advisor. RCA is a fiduciary advisory firm, which means every recommendation we make must be in the best interests of our clients. Furthermore, as a fee-only advisor, this means we are never compensated for recommending one product over another. We receive no "kickbacks" by wholesalers or funds for the investments we recommend.
Who are your typical clients?
From young savers with savings goals, to high net worth families that require a more comprehensive set of services. Our representative that you work with is uniquely qualified to deliver solutions for your needs.
Can you tell me about your firm’s service standards?
We are fiduciary advisors which means we follow a legal standard to ensure every recommendation we make is in your best interest. Our service offering, which we strive to fulfill daily and our employees' effectiveness is measured by, consists of three parts: prudence in establishing and maintaining the plan component; maximizing risk adjusted investment returns; and having the best customer service that you will find anywhere in this industry. We prioritize being available when you reach out.
How will I have access to you and your team?
Call, email, or text. Your advisor is available M-F 8am to 5pm. We are happy to meet in person or virtually, whichever you prefer.
Will you coordinate your advice with my tax situation?
Absolutely. We often meet via conference calls with tax and estate attorneys to help you through any planning needs. There are tax planning specialists on the team here at RCA that can provide additional support, as well.
What happens to my accounts if something happens to you?
If something happens to your dedicated advisor, we employ our standing contingency plan. It'll begin with a member of the RCA team reaching out to you with next steps. You always have access to your accounts by calling the custodian directly, as well. Our custodians are Charles Schwab and Betterment. These firms securely hold your money in your name.
How do you protect my information?
We have a detailed privacy policy that covers how we protect your information. In short, we take your privacy seriously and ensure all systems are using the latest in bank level encryption. Additionally, we take advantage of two-way authentication for all of the software that offers it. We make this mandatory for all members of our team. And finally, we are held to the same confidentiality standards as lawyers and doctors, by law. Only with your permission can we disclose that you are a client of ours. We never disseminate your investment information unless required by law.
